His second short, the comedy-fantasy, Filling In (2016), more than doubled the award count of Roller Coaster and was not only screened in 19 states across the country but also in Australia, Canada, England, Italy, and Lithuania, as well. Hawkins' latest short, the semi-autobiographical coming-of-age family drama, Calf Rope, was released in June 2020 and has already exceeded the success on the film festival circuit of his two previous films, combined. As a result of Hawkins' notoriety as a multi-award-winning film director, his decades of on-camera experience and expertise at drawing powerful performances out of his actors have won over 50 awards for their work lead and supporting roles in each of the films that he has directed. Over the past 25 years, Hawkins has studied with some of the best known acting coaches in the country, and as a result, he has developed his own unique coaching/directing style for actors of all ages which he continues to enjoy working with between film projects.
